Project Description
The Haver Foundation combats prejudice and fosters acceptance through non-formal education led by Jewish peer educators. This project extends Haver’s work into rural areas, in partnership with the FreeDrom Association, the Lutheran Roma Student College of Pécs, the Diverse Youth Network, and the local Jewish community. Together, they offer programs for teachers, Roma students, and the LGBTQ community, while also recruiting and training a new generation of young Jewish educators.
Findings
- Jewish youth in Pécs (Hungary) are eager to participate, which enabled Haver to successfully hold a recruitment event that introduced its mission and provided a foundational understanding of its peer-led educational approach.
- Youth from Pécs have completed training, and rural students have begun their training to become Haver peer educators.
- In Gilvánfa, a village with a 99% Roma population, Haver engaged highly marginalised students through a successful session addressing stereotypes and prejudices.
