Project Description

In recent years, Serbia has witnessed a concerning rise in antisemitism that often goes unnoticed and unaddressed. To combat this growing challenge, Terraforming and the Center for Memory Culture have developed the ‘ABC of Antisemitism’, an innovative web-based resource designed to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, and provide comprehensive educational tools that empower citizens to recognise and actively counter antisemitic attitudes.

Given the lack of resources for addressing contemporary antisemitism available to both the general Serbian public and media professionals, educators, and cultural stakeholders, the ABC of Antisemitism fills a crucial need by offering a much-needed starting point for education and awareness. It serves as an engaging and well-designed online reference for understanding contemporary antisemitism. It provides an introductory guide in the form of critical terms, key facts, and responses to common misconceptions and stereotypes.

Outputs

  • The creation of an online resource with 10 entries in Serbian.
  • 3 events that presented and promoted the online resource with 60 (Staro Sajmište), 80 (Subotica), and 100 participants (Novi Sad).

Findings

  • Contextual tailoring is crucial: creating resources tailored to local contexts, such as the specific cultural and historical nuances of Serbia, makes educational efforts more relatable and impactful.
  • Event-based promotion works: combining public events and online promotional efforts significantly increases outreach and engagement with the target audience.
  • Need for institutional support: while obtaining certification from the Ministry of Education is a significant milestone, securing sufficient financial resources remains a challenge for expanding educational initiatives.
